Walkway Improvements Are Underway!

Late spring and early summer gave us the perfect weather to kick off construction season at the Gorge!

Early tree removal was done ahead of the IDNR deadline of April 1 to protect local bat habitats. Trees that were taken down stayed on site for a bit, but were quickly taken care of when our construction partner RL Turner took over the site.

Once the contractor took control of the site, erosion control measures were put in place to protect the river and then earth moving began to make room for the expanded parking lot and improved walkway connections.

The trailhead is now officially closed until early 2026 to keep all Richmond residents safe. The Whitewater Gorge trail can still be access from the north, with closures expected near the trailhead as construction needs arise.
